Hand-powered centrifuge costs only 20 cents, can diagnose diseases

Manu Prakash, a professor of bioengineering at Stanford University, has developed a lifesaving tool that costs just 20 cents. The 'paperfuge' is a hand-powered ultralight centrifuge, inspired by one of the most basic of human toys – the whirliwig.  The invention can diagnose diseases like malaria and HIV within minutes without using electricity.
