Mars' surface was carved by furious floods 3.5 billion years ago, study finds 

Huge crater lakes on Mars overflowed with water 3.5 billion years ago, scientists from the University of Texas in Austin say. As it spewed out, water eroded the landscape, leaving deep river valleys.
