Margaret Mary Pretty was born on 21st April 1925 and was the daughter of William and Florence Armstrong. In her early years, Margaret was a lecturer in Latin and Greek at the Nigerian College of Technology. It was here that she met her husband, James Pretty, whom she married on 2nd September 1959. They subsequently both lectured together at Belfast University where Margaret continued to teach Latin and Greek and her husband mathematics. Following James’s retirement, the couple moved to Wat
