Qing emperors’ carpets grace Turin museum
Thirty-sixrare Qing dynasty (1644-1912) carpets, made from silk and metal in the
18th and 19th centuries to adorn the podiums and thrones of the
Forbidden City in Beijing, are on show at the Museo di Arte Orientale inTurin (Power and Magic: Carpets from Imperial China, until 28 March).
There are only around 300 examples of such works in existence. They are
famed for their visual complexity, incorporating an arresting
combination of vivid colours, Taoist symbols and mythological imagery.
