Portfolio: Philippe Halsman

After a long and rather dispiriting day photographing the Ford (of automobile fame) family in the early 1950s, Philippe Halsman asked Eleanor Ford, Henry's daughter-in-law, if she might jump for his camera. Although worried about her high heels, she gave it a go, and before Halsman knew it, the rest of the family wanted a turn. For the next six years he ended his shoots by asking his subjects to leap for him.
