My friend and mentor, Andrew Ciechanowiecki, who has died aged 91, was a gallery owner and authority on Old Master paintings. Andrew moved from his native Poland to London in the early 1960s, becoming a director of the newly-founded Mallett gallery, at Bourdon House, Mayfair, and mounting four groundbreaking sculpture exhibitions.In 1966 he established the London branch of the French Heim gallery, eventually buying out his former partner François Heim.
