The world “ectopic” simply means “an abnormal place or position.” Therefore, when we talk of ectopic pregnancy, we refer to the pregnancy that is located or implanted outside the womb where all but a small number of pregnancies are implanted.
Ectopic pregnancy is one of the medical or gynaecological diseases that requires utmost urgent intervention. Failing, untreated ectopic pregnancy may lead to death of the expectant mother. Two per cent of all pregnancies are ectopic.
