Sensex crosses 49,000-mark for first time ever

Equity indices opened higher on Monday with the benchmark BSE sensex breaching the 49,000-mark for first time ever. The 30-share BSE index scaled an intra-day high of 49,252 in early trade; while the broader NSE Nifty was trading above 14,400.
