Williams Lake goes on evacuation alert

The city of Williams Lake and nearby areas have been placed on evacuation alert by city and regional officials.
Worries about what Wednesday’s weather might have in store for the collection of fires burning in the Alexis Creek area, about an hour and a half west of Williams Lake, prompted officials to push out the alert Monday at 6 p.m.
There is some possible precipitation in Wednesday’s forecast, but more worrying will be winds which could drive the flames quickly over the dry terra
