Time is right for over-seeding lawns

Q. My lawn has bare patches and I’m thinking of over-seeding. Can I do it now or should I wait until spring?
A. September is considered a good month for over-seeding lawns. Given typical weather patterns, this timing should give the seeds time to germinate and establish root systems before hard frosts. At some time this month, rainy days will probably arrive to keep the ground well moistened for good seedling development. Until then, make sure seeded areas do not dry out.
