The sound of a train that opens William B. Davis’ fine production of The Cherry Orchard is the sound of the future. The new railway line along the river makes that land prime for redevelopment. The beautiful but unproductive cherry orchard will have to go, along with the rest of the ancestral estate, so the growing Russian middle class can have summer cottages.
