Metro Vancouver to raise rates to pay for sewage infrastructure

Government and stakeholder consultations are expected to begin later this summer on Metro Vancouver’s plans to significantly increase the fees it charges on new developments.
Any new development within the region, with few exceptions, pays Metro Vancouver a liquid-waste development cost charge (DCC), which is levied at the time permits are issued and collected by municipalities on behalf of Metro.
The DCCs fund 99 per cent of growth-related sewer projects in the region.
