Maple Ridge asks court to shut down homeless camp, citing safety issues

Maple Ridge is asking the courts for permission to shut down a homeless camp, saying it has become unsafe and is causing problems.
City officials are scheduled to be in B.C. Supreme Court on Monday to apply for an injunction to shutter a tent city where up to 80 people have been living since May.
The city originally applied for the injunction in May, saying in court documents that the encampment brought noise, odours, human waste and hypodermic needles to the neighbourhood.
