Great-tailed grackle wings into Metro Vancouver for first time on record

A wayward great-tailed grackle has winged its way into Metro Vancouver for the first time on record.
According to the B.C. Rare Bird Alert, the female grackle has staked its territory in a vacant lot on West Fourth Avenue between Alma Street and Highbury Street, and has attracted a steady parade of photographers and lookyloos. This is only the fifth record of the species provincewide.
“The bird has a limp, but … is eating and flying OK,” the alert says on its website.
