Evacuation alert lifted for Barnston Island

Regional officials have lifted the evacuation alert for Barnston Island, in the Fraser River between Pitt Meadows and Surrey.
Metro Vancouver says the Fraser River peaked at 5.99 metres at the Mission gauge on Monday, and water levels are expected to continue to recede.
The evacuation alert was issued on May 16 in anticipation of rising water from the Fraser River.
Metro says access to the island has been restored and Barnston Island Regional Park has reopened.
