B.C. government moves to protect renters by closing fixed-term 'loophole'
Tenant advocates welcomed the B.C. government’s move Thursday to close a long-derided “major loophole” abused by some landlords, but said there’s more work needed to strengthen protections for the province’s renters.
The B.C. government announced Thursday it was introducing legislation to close the loophole, meaning “renters will now be protected against massive rent hikes at the end of a lease.”
