Peel board will continue to use To Kill a Mockingbird in classrooms
One trustee who voted for the book’s removal from the curriculum feels the novel causes harm to Black students — the N-word appears 19 times and the story is about Tom Robinson, a Black man facing trial for a crime he didn’t commit, but told through the eyes of Scout Finch, the daughter of his white lawyer Atticus Finch.
