Powwows, dancing help wildfire evacuees ‘come together,’ easing pain of seeing First Nations burn
Evacuees staying in Thunder Bay, Ont., received free shuttle services from hotels to Dilico Anishinabek Family Care's eighth annual powwow in Fort William First Nation, an event promoting togetherness amid a wildfire season that's displaced over 2,800 people from about a dozen communities. "I'm dancing as hard as I can for them," says a grass dancer originally from a First Nation in Manitoba.
