Ward 5 became one of the more interesting races in Edmonton’s 2017 civic election as soon as Coun. Michael Oshry announced in May he would not seek re-election after serving just one term.
Hemmed in by Parklands County on its western edge and the North Saskatchewan river valley to the east, housing and what to do about infill will be a key issue during this election. The ward is rapidly growing with new housing developments on its southern edge, continuing Edmonton’s urban sprawl.
