Teacher fined $200, gets reprimand for slapping a student with disabilities

A Grande Prairie family is frustrated and angry after a teacher who admitted to hitting their 10-year-old disabled child received a $200 fine and letter of severe reprimand from an Alberta Teachers’ Association conduct committee.
“To me, it’s another slap in the face,” the boy’s mother, Lisa Lovean, said of the committee’s penalty, which was announced Wednesday after a hearing in Edmonton.
