There have been a great many self-congratulatory articles lauding our new city council as diverse.
Calling a council that added one woman and one Indigenous man “diverse” is damning with faint praise. Recent census data says Edmonton has the second largest Indigenous population in Canada and 17.1 per cent of all new immigrants to Canada in the last five years came to Alberta.
