Province to unveil first-quarter fiscal update

Albertans will find out Wednesday afternoon what shape the provincial coffers are in when Finance Minister Joe Ceci releases the 2017-18 first-quarter fiscal update.
The province racked up a $10.8-billion deficit by the end of the 2016-17 financial year, ending up $33.3 billion in the red.
Ceci’s plan at the time was to climb out of the debt hole little by little, producing incrementally smaller deficits each year and eventually balancing the budget by 2023.
