Police investigating after explosive defused in west end

Police are investigating after the bomb squad defused an explosive in the west end.
Police responded to reports of an explosive device in the area of 97 Avenue and 159 Street around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“Responding officers cordoned off the area and evacuated civilians in the immediate vicinity while the EPS explosive disposal unit responded and rendered the device safe,” said police spokeswoman Carolin Maran in an email Wednesday.
