No — you cannot call MLAs “drunken sailors” in the legislature.
That was the ruling from Speaker Robert Wanner Monday after the UCP took issue with Finance Minister Joe Ceci using the term to describe the official Opposition during question period.
Saying a party spends like drunken sailors — that’s not a problem. But as UCP house leader Jason Nixon pointed out, “None of us are intoxicated on this side of the house.”
