Man dies after police standoff in south Edmonton

A man who barricaded himself inside a south Edmonton hotel near 38 Avenue and Gateway Boulevard causing a nearly 12-hour long standoff has died, Edmonton police said Sunday morning.
While the death is deemed non-criminal, it will still be investigated, a police release said.
“The Alberta Director of Law Enforcement has instructed Edmonton police service to further investigate the incident as it is considered to be an in-custody death,” the release said.
