Led by food, booze purchases, Alberta credit, debit card spending rises

Spending on credit and debit cards in Alberta rose three per cent last summer compared to summer 2016, according to figures released Thursday by payment processing company Moneris.
The biggest increases were for restaurants (up 4.7 per cent) and alcohol (up 4.2 per cent), while outlays also rose for household goods (3.9 per cent) and entertainment (2.2 per cent).
The only area showing a decrease was clothing, down about one per cent. The company would not reveal the amount of money spent.
