High water levels bedevil North Saskatchewan River

The North Saskatchewan River took its sweet time to ice up this winter, resulting in the latest freeze in recent years.
The river usually freezes in late November or early December, but unseasonably warm temperatures shuffled that date back to Dec. 22, according to Environment and Parks.
Nadia Kovachis Watson, a river hydraulics and ice engineer with the province, told Postmedia freeze-up occurred close to Christmas in 2006, 2008 and 2009, but 2018 was the latest freeze in years.
