Growing Things: Mulch it up

Q I moved into a newly constructed home a few months ago and the builder landscaped the front and backyards. In the process, they added some larger trees on our boulevard. Under the trees they installed landscaping fabric and then a 10 cm layer of stone. The stones are approximately 7.5 cm in width.
