Growing Things: Foundations for growing veggies

Q I'm a first-time gardener with a family of four. My grocery bill for produce has risen astronomically during the past year. My wife and I decided the time has come to start growing at least some of our own vegetables but we really don’t know how to start. We have a very small yard. I plan on creating a vegetable garden approximately three metres by three metres. There is a lawn in the area right now.
