GROWING THINGS: Bushes and shrubs getting beat up and burned

Q It's our red currant bush again. It produced much better this year than last, but not nearly as well as 10 years ago. Now in the past 24 to 48 hours, it's been (is being!) shredded. First you see all the stripped branches, but then lift the leaves and there are so many little green caterpillars. Is that what they are? And what do I do now?
