Education minister banning school seclusion rooms effective September 2019

Alberta’s education minister will issue a ministerial order next week to ban seclusion rooms in schools as of September.
In a Friday morning email to a panel of government-appointed experts studying the issue, Minister David Eggen said all school seclusion rooms must be decommissioned by the 2019-20 school year. These sparse rooms, often locked from the outside, are used to isolate students having behavioural outbursts.
