Maya is Swiss-Canadian citizen who was born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates while her family was spending a decade overseas. She began her educational journey in Munich, Germany. She was immersed in the German language and culture for three years before her family relocated back to Canada. Alongside academics, sports have played a huge role in her life, enjoying gymnastics, soccer, and basketball growing up, but ultimately choosing to focus on competitive swimming.
