Edmonton Métis leader Herb Belcourt dies at 85

Edmonton businessman and celebrated Métis leader Herb Belcourt has died at the age of 85 after a battle with cancer.
Belcourt died on July 5, just one day before his 86th birthday.
He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in Dec. 2016 when doctors told him he only had a month to live.
Belcourt was awarded the Order of Canada in 2010 for his activism and philanthropic work. He was one of the founders of the Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards at the Edmonton Community Foundation to support p
