Edmonton heritage group proud owner of Cold War radar tower

An Edmonton civil defence history group has bought an important relic from Canada’s Cold War past — a radar tower that once scanned the sky for Soviet aerial attacks.
The domed tower is one of the last survivors out of hundreds built across North America in the 1950s and 1960s to watch for enemy missiles or bombers, says Fred Armbruster, founder of the Canadian Civil Defence Museum and Archives.
