Edmonton-area dog recognized for life-saving heroics after owner thrown from horse

Former professional barrel racer Tracy Matkea is certain her heroic dog Becky Jo is the reason she is alive today.
The four-year-old Australian shepherd and border collie cross urgently found help more than a year ago when a horse threw Matkea and left her critically injured and unconscious in the Arizona desert.
Becky Jo, who lives in Calahoo about 21 km northwest of Edmonton, was one of three dogs inducted Tuessday into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame for life
