Editorial: Security upgrade long overdue

Edmonton transit riders will soon see uniformed guards patrolling all hours at key bus and LRT stations after city council approved $20 million worth of safety and security measures Tuesday.
The city will also speed up the rollout of bus shields — retractable barriers — to protect drivers working late-night shifts and higher-risk routes.
Twenty-five new peace officers to staff the Valley Line LRT will be hired three months early to help on the existing lines.
