Editorial: Apology is only the first step

It's a day that many who survived Canada's residential schools, their families and communities have long waited for — a formal apology from the Catholic Church for its role in the tragedy. It's also one that some feared might never come, at least not in their lifetimes, given the Church's painfully slow standard when it comes to expressing regret. Remember, it took a half-century for the Vatican to officially apologize for failing to take more decisive action to challenge the Nazis' exterm
