Editorial: Act fast on canola

China’s decision to ban canola imports from Canada is such a dire threat to Western Canada’s economy that even the federal government, still embroiled in the SNC-Lavalin affair, has taken notice.
It’s not hyperbole to suggest that even without a scandal to preoccupy Ottawa, the region’s economic concerns usually take a back seat to issues that matter to vote-rich Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. But this Western Canadian crisis is too big to ignore.
