David Staples: How to win a city council race with $1,200 in donations

Fifty-four times incumbents have run again in Edmonton city council races in the last two decades. Only three times has a challenger come out on top. It’s fair  to characterize every such race as David versus Goliath. 
The only candidates who have slain the giant of incumbency were Stephen Mandel in 2004, Don Iveson in 2007 and now Dziadyk. On Monday, he beat out Dave Loken in a north Edmonton council race, 4,354 votes to 3,890.
