Alberta youth advocate recommends LGBTQ-specific training
The first LGBTQ-specific report by Alberta’s child and youth advocate raises a host of concerns including youth afraid to come out, kicked out of their home, homophobic remarks by caregivers, and nowhere to live safely.
At the same time, threads of hope and positive strides in the system weave throughout the report, released Monday.
Despite more acceptance and support for LGBTQ youth in Canada, they are also at a higher risk of homelessness, mental illness, violence and suicide.
