SAH makes coronary angioplasty debut

Sault Area Hospital completed its first coronary angioplasty earlier this week, with a total of six procedures having been performed.
Some 400 Algoma patients are referred annually to other centres for cardiac stenting, a procedure used to widen blocked or narrowed coronary arteries, the main blood vessels supplying the heart.
The hospital said Thursday it’s premature to speculate if this week’s output will reflect the pace at which future procedures will be done here.
