Actor Burt Reynolds didn’t end up picking up the tab for long-distance calls made by Sault Ste. Marie residents nearly 35 years ago.Reynolds died Thursday. The star of Deliverance and Smokey and the Bandit was 82.Hold the phone! Burt’s not paying was published in The Sault Star on Oct. 9, 1984.Reynolds gave out his credit card number on a television show after reaching a settlement of about $500,000 from AT&T. The native of Lansing, Mich., claimed he was hit by a company vehicle.
