Phone fraudsters scam Sault residents
Fraudsters posing as Canada Revenue Agency officials have defrauded Sault Ste. Marie residents of up to $1,000, city police say.Victims are told they owe back taxes and are told to buy gift cards and provide them over the phone or online.CRA does not ask for fund transfers by phone and don’t ask for payment in gift cards.No personal information should be released, a release says.
