Midway lumber mill cuts 'big hit': USW

Midway Lumber Mills is laying off 16 workers at its Thessalon operation.The job cuts were announced last Friday afternoon and take effect in mid-to-late April, Scott Dunlop, president of United Steelworkers Local 9260 told The Sault Star.
The mill on Sherwood Road employs about 70.
“This is a big hit,” said Dunlop. He said land claims involving First Nations and the Ontario government are holding up wood supply.
