Man wields machete during argument near Sault's downtown

A man allegedly threatened someone with a machete during an argument near downtown on Thursday.The altercation in the 0 to 100 block of Church Street was reported at about 8:20 a.m., police say.A male suspect is accused of giving a false name to police. Ted Smith, 50, was charged with assault with a weapon, personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution, or obstruct justice and failure to attend court after having appeared. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
