Lyme disease risk low in Northern Ontario

Most Northern Ontario districts, including Algoma and Sudbury, show little incidence of blacklegged, Lyme-disease carrying ticks, say public health officials.
Brandon Hazelton at Algoma Public Health says in an e-mailed reply to a query, “Lyme disease is rare in Algoma, more specifically blacklegged ticks carrying Lyme-causing bacteria are not common, but are still present.”
Hazelton advised, “Residents should continue to be aware and take precautions.”
