Lockdown ends at remand centre

A lockdown at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre ended last Wednesday.The confinement of prisoners followed a disturbance at the Great Northern Road facility last Sunday.Public visits resumed Thursday “once sufficient progress on cleaning efforts was complete,” said Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services spokesperson Brent Ross in an email.Cleanup was expected to end Friday.Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is investigating the disturbance.
