Responding Ontario’s 1982 introduction of a seven-per-cent tax on take-out food, YMCA Coffee Corner operator Van Buchan found an economical way to shield herself from the flood of complaints she was shouldering. Sporting coffee cup ear plugs and a J Cloth gag, Buchan said she didn’t want to hear any more about the tax or talk about it.
