Saskatoon city council backs exploring user fees for garbage pickup

Saskatoon city council took a hesitant first step toward the possibility of user fees for garbage pickup with even some supporters admitting to “misgivings.”
Council voted 7-4 Monday to continue to explore the options for operating waste services as a user-pay utility and discontinuing paying for it through property taxes.
Mixed feelings were expressed by those voting on both side of the issue. Councillors Troy Davies, Randy Donauer, Bev Dubois and Ann Iwanchuk voted against the move
