Pizzeria owner thwarts gunpoint robbery with metal rod

A suspect is on the run, and licking his wounds, after biting off more than he could chew at Vern's Pizza early Friday morning.
Saskatoon police said in a release the man forced his way into a business at the corner of Warman Road and Assiniboine Drive through the back entryway at 12:20 a.m. by pointing what appeared to be a black handgun at an employee.
Staff at Vern's confirmed the incident to 650 CKOM.
